We are pleased to welcome to the Birmingham International
Tattoo the Massed Pipes and Drums. All of the pipe bands
actively promote Scottish Highland music through public
performances across the United Kingdom and further afield.
As we commemorate 100 years since World War One it is
important to remember that military pipers were killed and
injured in significant numbers in the Great War, before the War
Office banned the practice of playing in the trenches in 1915.
However, the ban was often not observed and Canadian piper James
Richardson was awarded the Victoria Cross for playing in action
Combining for this year's performance will be
members from the following bands:
- The Southern
Highlanders Pipes & Drums - The Seaforth Highlanders Pipes &
Drums - Cambridgeshire Caledonian Pipe Band - Nene Valley
Pipe Band - Northampton Pipe Band - Nottinghamshire Police
