The Royal Band of the Antwerp Police
The Royal Band of the Antwerp Police was established in 1901 by four policemen and is made up of musicians who play an instrument in addition to their police duties.

After the Second World War, the Band had increased in numbers to 85 musicians. Despite a turbulent time with membership in the 1970s that led to many music societies collapsing, the Band survived this period, and this year they are now celebrating their 115th anniversary.

Since the disappearance of several professional military bands, the Antwerp Police Band has increasingly come to the fore and they have performed across Europe including in Holland, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark and Hungary. Closer to home, the band is also a fixture at the official commemoration ceremonies which are organized by the City of Antwerp and have also enjoyed the honour of participating in the national parade in Brussels. Their main performances at home include the official ceremonies (National Day and Armistice Remembrance), the annual liberation tattoo in Antwerp, the ‘Spring Concert’ and the traditional ‘Christmas Concert’.

The Royal Band of the Antwerp Police is led by Bandmaster Pieter Nieva and Drum Major Patrick Callenaere. It is thanks to the commitment and discipline of the conductor and the musicians that the Royal Band of the Antwerp Police is an all-round orchestra that provides both concerts and outdoor performances.

They are proud to act as ambassadors both for the Police in general and the City of Antwerp in particular at this year's Birmingham International Tattoo.
