The Massed Bands of the Sea Cadet Corps
Under the Direction of Lt Cdr (SCC) A Bowen-Davies MMus LRWCMD FGMS FRSA RNR

Music has been an important part of life at sea for centuries, accompanying manual tasks such as hauling ropes, turning the capstan or climbing the rigging but also as a means of entertainment, keeping up morale and reminding sailors of their homes across the sea.

The Massed Bands of the Sea Cadet Corps is made up of musicians from Sea Cadet Unit Bands across the United Kingdom, from Scotland to the West Country. Cadets are aged from 12 to 18 and take up music as an additional proficiency, outside of the usual Sea Cadet curriculum.

The Massed Bands represent the Sea Cadet Corps at numerous national events each year. Recently this has included the commissioning of the new Corps Flagship, TS Royalist and the annual National Trafalgar Parade in London. In 2012, the Massed Bands performed at the first major event of the Diamond Jubilee when they escorted the Queen’s Jubilee Diamond to the Tower of London.
